On House of Valois-Anjou

  • they were not Counts of Valois, since that territory belonged to Valois-Orleans
  • Valois.svg is nonetheless a convenient coat of arms for the first of the Valois-Anjou, Duke Louis, who was the only one to use it (his descendants use more elaborate arms)
  • Not all branches of the Capetian dynasty shifted to France modern; among those who retained France ancient are Valois-Burgundy and Valois-Anjou.

Valois-Anjou, continued

  • Still, I could find no source for the claim that Valois-Anjou used the plain, modern variant of Anjou, except in the form of an escutcheon in Rene's arms
    • Just because Rene used the an escutcheon of Anjou Modern doesn't mean that he also used the plain arms of Anjou Modern
  • it is highly unlikely for his descendants to use a version of the arms plainer than their living ancestor (Rene outlived both his son and grandson)
  • Jean d'Anjou.svg, showing the arms of Rene's son, is differenced by a label
