The Barony of Wester Wemyss was created in 1919 for the great uncle of the current chief with a patent referring to the "heirs male of his body lawfully begotten", since he died without male issue the barony did not devolve on his nephew and became extinct in 1933. The arms of this branch is undifferentiated arms of Wemyss of Wemyss i.e. Wemyss of that Ilk (Earls of Wemyss) since the main branch of the Earls (from elder brother of James who is progenitor of this branch) adopted additional surname and quartered their arms with that of Charteris, later fully adopting that name.  -->
