His eldest son from his 1st marriage who would be his heir was barred from inheritance by canon law due to a fact Iye du Mackay and his 1st wife Helen MacLeod were first cousins. They contested this but eventually lost and relocated to Scoury (Scourie) Castle. The line of the Chiefs of Clan Mackay then continues from elder son from 2nd marriage, Hugh Mackay of Reay and Farr seen below -->
