Eldest son | <!-- The line starts with Stefan (see main page of Sponheim) and continues until Gottfried III who married Adelheid, sister and heiress of Heinrich III, Count of Sayn. After Gottfried III's death in 1223 his sons divided their posessions. Eldest son Gottfied became a priest and later Abbot of Sponheim. His 2nd son Johann inherited Sayn, Hachenburg and Starkenburg, thus his line continuing as main line of Counts of Sayn and a junior line of the Counts of Sponheim-Starkenburg. Heinrich the 3rd son inherited Blankenburg and Lowenberg and also married Agnes of Heinsberg, heiress of Heinsberg and his descendants were Lords of Heinsberg and also at one point Counts of Loon and Chiny. Third son Simon inherited Kreuznach and Neef and started the line known as Sponheim-Kreuznach --> | ||
