Eberwin IV was succeeded by his son Arnold III who in turn was succeeded by Eberwin V of Gotterswick who also inherited Bentheim from his maternal cousins and became Eberwin I of Bentheim...he married Mechtild of Steinfurt as his 1st wife and had a daughter who inherited Steinfurt, however she immediately ceded Steinfurt to her father who then passed it on to his sons from his 2nd marriage. After his death Bentheim goes to his eldest son Berhnard and Steinfurt is passed on to his younger son Arnold. Bernhard's granddaughter Maria (heiress of Bentheim) married her cousin Arnold II who was a grandson of Arnold thus joining Bentheim and Steinfurt once again.  -->
