His eldest son and heir Philip being the progenitor of Earls of Carlisle. This branch in particular stemmed from Sir Charles, William's 2nd son who owned Croglin Hall in Cumberland. This Charles had a son John who had a son Ralph who had a son Robert, Bishop of Elphin in Ireland. Robert's eldest son Ralph was created Baron Clonmore in 1776 and 1st Viscount Wicklow in 1785, Ralph's son also named Robert was further created 1st Earl of Wicklow in 1793.  -->
