After his brother died he inherited Thomond and after an agreement with the English crown he surrendered the title of King and was in turn created Earl of Thomond and Baron Inchiquin. Earldom was created by patent to his nephew and his heirs (son of his elder brother Connor) while Barony of Inchiquin was created in reminder to his heirs male -->
