<!-- In 1243 after the death of Herman IV, Baden was divided between his eldest son Herman V and younger son Heinrich who became Heinrich I of Baden-Hachberg. At this point we can say Herman V was the first Margrave of Baden-Baden. Herman V had two sons as well: eldest Herman VI and younger Rudolf I. Herman VI married Gertrude of Austria, niece and heiress of Frederick II of Austria-Babenberg. Until that point ruling Baden(-Baden) with his younger brother Rudolf, Herman left Baden in complete control of his younger brother and left for Austria...he was succeeded by his son Friedrich who was Duke of Austria and Styria (1250-1268 - contested by Ottokar II of Bohemia). Rudolf I thus became the true progenitor of the Baden-Baden line. --> | |||
