Talk:House of Savoy

The first arms, Or an eagle sable traditionnally represent the county of Maurienne (very first county Humbert Ier de Savoie received from the emperor at the fall of the kingdom of Burgundy).

Cadet branch : Savoie-Vaud, barons of Vaud. Or an eagle sable, a label of five points gules (painted in La Diana c. 1300).

Finellach, I'm making a few (minor) changes in here. Tell me if I'm overstepping.

- Individual names in the medieval house of Savoy (except for individuals sp. living in england or in Piedmont I mean) should be written in modern french (franco-provençal cultural area : Montmélian and Grenoble are under 50km apart).
eg: Amédée de Savoie (Amadeo is spanish), Humbert de Savoie, Jacques de Savoie, Guillaume de Savoie

- Amédée II's arms from the hall of crusades are attributed of course, that's just the legend missing (he's also not count of Savoy proper).
- Amédée III's seal is one of the five earliest known iconographic testimonies about heraldry. I'm adding it to the list of personal arms because it's a very important one. Could even be represented in the form of a banner to match the actual testimony.

All good. You can also take a peek at the their cadets and change the names there accordingly while you're at it. Am not an expert on names to be honest...so I named them to their english language variants. Finellach (talk) 03:24, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
