Armorial du Héraut Vermandois
This french armorial, attributed to the Vermandois herald, was compiled around 1290-94 and is known only by later transcriptions in blazon. The present reconstruction will follow the legend and numbering from version A of the armorial (ms fr.2249) also known as the Traité du comportement des armes. The document is a compilation work, started in the late 14th c. and finished around 1460, assembling several rolls from different dates and vastly different sizes. The bulk and first part of the armorial is to be considered the Vermandois roll proper : it features 856 individuals living c. 1290, mostly northern french nobles, originally arranged in 23 sections (some headers were omitted in copy and recreated here) representing 18 regional groups (or marches d'armes).
