One of Romania's highest chivalric orders, the Order of Ferdinand I was instituted by Prince Nicholas in 1929<br>and was named in honour of Ferdinand the Unifier, the King of Romania who united the country and ruled over Greater Romania.<br>It was only bestowed upon people who greatly contributed to the Great Union of 1918 and, after all of them received received knighthoods, it was abolished.
