The Artaud family, lords of Aix (Aix-en-Diois) inherit vast domains in the Vercors pre-Alps from the former counts of Die : they are almost surely one of their cadet branches and the very reason the arms of the counts are blazonned similarly in the salle des croisades (one of the many debatable choices since the counts were extinct by the time heraldry reached that area).



The name Montauban is inherited from the Montdragon family, lords of Montauban (desinherited heir, gets the land of Montmaur and keeps the name of his mother, Dragonette de Montauban). Crusades and royal service will make them become more successful than the main branch.
