Livery of Gaillard de la Motte

One impressive wing of the de Viviers palace is also referred to as Gaillard de la Motte. After renovation work magnificent painted ceilings and decoration undercoating material, in a room that was once the grand dining room in the early 14th century. The patterns, which represent the coats of arms of the Christian courts, are thought to have been painted for a meeting of princes in 1336, invited by Pope Benedict XII, in this palace where the cardinal Gaillard de la Mothe lived. The arms of the participating cardinals and kings were displayed in the banquet hall in the livery of Cardinal Gaillard de la Motte.
