The Golden Company is a mercenary organization based in Essos, which was founded by Ser Aegor "Bittersteel" Rivers in 212 AC.
The company was originally founded to unite the exiled supporters of House Blackfyre and return to Westeros to seat a suitable Blackfyre on the Iron Throne.
The company's motto is "Our word is good as gold," but their war cry, "Beneath the gold, the bitter steel," is more famous.
The company's current captain-general is "Homeless" Harry Strickland.
