The Seton Armorial is the earliest source to display argent, on a bend azure, three buckles or for the Leslie quarters. Initially, the 2nd and 3rd quarters did not represent Abernathy, Bruce McAndrew speculates about Inchmartin. Evidence for the Abernathy quartering stems mostly from the 17th century.
