The Dance of the Dragons was a large, multi-theater dynastic civil war in Westeros that erupted following the death of King Viserys I Targaryen in 129 AC. It was fought between the late king's eldest daughter, Rhaenyra, and his first-born son, Aegon II, both of whom laid claim to the Iron Throne. The war concluded with the deaths of Rhaenyra and Aegon II, the ascension of Rhaenyra's son, Aegon III, and the subsequent extinction of the dragons.
