<!-- Blankeheim family is strongly suggested to be cadets of Julich. The progenitor of the family is certain Gerhard von Blankenheim who first appears as a witness to a charter of the Archbishop of Cologne, in which he is unusually placed above and between other (much more important and comital) nobles of the region...specifically his name on the charter is placed directly below Gerhard III, Count of Julich. Considering this fact and the fact his coat of arms which is confirmed to be that of Julich differenced by a label of five points (which was a common way in Germany to differentiate a younger son contuining his own line) it is strongly suggested Blankenheim's are a cadet branch of the Counts of Julich.
