<!-- The origin of the Campbell's is usually given as ancient Celtic/Gaelic Irish origin, however the name Campbell (from Latin "Campo Bello") suggests either Norman or Flemish origin. It is proposed that somewhere in 11th century a chief of the clan married certain Anglo-Norman (or Flemish) woman/heiress of "Campo Bello" from whom the name was taken over. The other theory is that it was in fact a Anglo-Norman or Flemish knight (it is suggested he might have even been a cadet of the Enghien family as they are the only family in that time that used gyronny of argent and sable in those times) in the serivce of King David of Scotland who was rewarded a hand in marriage from the heiress of original O'Duibhne for his loyal service to the monarch. --> | |||
