War for the Stepstones

Westeros | Essos | Events | Military Orders

From 106 to 115 AC, a war was fought for control of the Stepstones by Daemon Targaryen, the "Rogue Prince", allied with the Velaryons, against the Triarchy - an alliance between the Free Cities of Myr, Lys and Tyrosh - with military support from Dorne.
The war ended when Daemon beheaded the infamous "Crabfeeder," Craghas Drahar, the leader of the Triarchy forces, in single combat.
Daemon, having joined the Velaryon war effort because he wanted to form his own kingdom, was crowned as King of the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea by Corlys Velaryon, the "Sea Snake," at war's end.
However, the Rogue Prince later abandoned his kingdom, and a series of sellsword pirate-kings successively took over.
The war is prominently featured in George R. R. Martin's Fire and Blood.
