Robert's Rebellion
Westeros | Essos | Events | Military Orders
Robert's Rebellion was a conflict in the Seven Kingdoms between House Targaryen and a coalition of rebels led by Lords Robert Baratheon, Eddard "Ned" Stark and Jon Arryn, that took place from 282 to 283 AC.
The rebellion was sparked when Rhaegar Targaryen, the Prince of Dragonstone, kidnapped Lyanna Stark - sister to Ned and betrothed to Robert - and Rhaegar's father, King Aerys II, brutally executed Rickard and Brandon Stark, then demanded the heads of Robert and Ned from Jon Arryn.
The rebellion culminated in the Sack of King's Landing and the overthrow of the Targaryen dynasty which had ruled for nearly 300 years, and Robert's ascension to the Iron Throne.
Robert's Rebellion informs the narrative of and is prominently referenced in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire.
