I have traced the arms back to a [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Epitafium--jana-z-ujazdu--circa-1450.jpg funerary portrait] of the Polish nobleman Jan z Ujazd, made for the church of Czchow which he benefacted (subsequently taken to Lviv, and finally Cracow). [https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=ro&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fistorieveche.ro%2F2014%2F09%2F21%2Fioan-de-onads-ducele-valahilor-din-anul-1150 Romanian authors] have not only made him into a Wallachian but changed the date "1450" into "1150", giving us this mythical Voivode of Onut (a misreading of the name ''O(g)nads'', which is in fact merely ''Ujazd'' Latinized). A 19th century engraving based on the portrait does identify the figure not only as ''capitaneus Czchoviensis'' but also as ''dux Valachiae''; however, this does not seem to be part of the original painting, and may anyway indicate authority over the Vlachs of southern Poland.
